New Member Spotlight - Sarah Vaughn

Printer-friendly version

Sarah Vaughn became a member of First Unitarian Church of St. Louis on February 5, 2023. She was born and raised in Kansas City, where she attended the huge Unity Church (also Unitarian). She has lived in Colorado Springs and Wichita and has four children: McKenzie (23), Pavlos (19), Grayson (7), and Sophie (4).

Sarah attended Avila University (a private Catholic university in Kansas City), from which she obtained her MS degree in psychology. She is a therapist who currently does teletherapy counseling, although she prefers working in person with people. Her last job-which she loved--was with homeless youth ages 15-24, and beginning in April she will be working with LYRA (also telehealth, but the pay is much better).

Sarah hasn't lived in the Metro East for long, as she closed on her house in Belleville on August 22, 2022. She finds the area more diverse than Wichita and feels very welcomed at First U. She particularly likes the covenant group for RE parents started by Danielle Kozemczak (which meets virtually on Zoom on the third Wednesday of the month).

Sarah's is an open-minded household (her oldest child, McKenzie, came out as a lesbian at age 12). As a participant in the LGBTQ Health Coalition, she has been one of the moms who are available to give "Free Mom Hugs" to members of the LGBTQ community when there is a need. She is also "rather adventurous" and has gone sky-diving, surfing (Here? Why, San Diego, of course), snow-boarding, and bungee-jumping!

Welcome, Sarah!
