New Member Bio : Meet Amelia Ehmling

Amelia Ehmling is from Lexington, KY, and is about to celebrate her one-year anniversary as a resident of St. Louis.  She loves it here!  She had just joined a UU church in Lexington in 2021, when she moved to St. Louis in 2022, so First Church was one of the first places she visited and she was delighted with the feelings of normalcy, community, and home that she experienced here.  She joined First Church in May, 2023.

Amelia works as a music therapist at Children's Hospital.  She has not only a Masters in music therapy, but also a degree in performance music, both of which contribute to her work with children.  Children who are experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, or even suicidal thoughts may not be able to express their feelings, but they may be able to recognize such emotions by listening to songs.  On the other hand, if a child cannot speak but can sing, he/she may be able to develop the power of speech through song.  In Amelia's words, whether the problems are behavioral or neurological, "music lives all over the brain," so "if your brain needs help, come to me!"

Not surprisingly, Amelia has been a member of the choir at First Church almost from the first day she arrived.  She is an avid reader and loves cultural activities such as the opera, the St. Louis Art Museum, and rock concerts.  Last but not least, she enjoys her cat, named "Kate The Cat," unless it's howling during a conversation.

Welcome Amelia!
