BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Due to the congregational nature of First Unitarian Church, the Board of Trustees plays a key role in determining current policy and future direction for our institution.

Committees to support our Board
and essential church functions

The following groups directly support the Board of Trustees at First Unitarian Church and help to manage essential financial, facility, and personnel issues. In most cases, members are appointed by the Board.

Archives Committee
Preserves important memorabilia of the history of the Church.

Clark Lecture Committee
Solicits speakers to deliver the annual Clark Memorial Lecture.
Contact:

Committee on Committees
Determines what committees will be established by the Church and recommends leaders and members of the committees.

Committee on Mission
Evaluates Church effectiveness in carrying out its mission both within the Church itself and in the wider St. Louis community, based upon goals developed with congregational involvement.

Facilities Committee
Ensures the physical well-being of the Church building and grounds.

Finance Committee
Sets and monitors the Church budget and advises the Church regarding finances.

Fundraising Committee
Plans and coordinates major fundraising activities to benefit the Church.

Insurance Committee
Ensures that the church insurance sufficiently protects the organization, staff, building, and property in case of any problems that result in financial claims or liabilities.

Investment Committee
Ensures the long-term stability and performance of the Church's investments.

Lewis Ministerial Internship Committee
Provides support and a learning experience for our annual Lewis Ministerial Intern.

Memorial Garden Committee
Administers the Memorial Garden and the plaques listing the members whose remains rest there.

Nominating Committee
Nominates members to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Church.

Personnel Committee
Supervises and supports the staff of the Church and recommends salary and benefit programs for approval by the Board of Trustees.

Planned Giving and Development Committee
Supports our long-term financial stability by encouraging substantial gifts to the Church.

Stewardship Committee
Exists to foster giving within First Church through a focus on member sharing of gifts, talents, and resources both within the church and, in concert with its mission, within the larger community.

PROGRAM COUNCIL

The Program Council was established as a coordinating and consultative body to ensure consistency of programming and a well-developed committee system. The Council coordinates Church activities by facilitating communication among committees, the Board of Trustees, and staff.
    In our tradition, the congregation is responsible for the operation of the church. Members and friends are expected to participate in this effort, and are encouraged to choose one or more of our committees on which to serve, while gaining opportunities for personal growth and friendship.

Flower Committee
Remembers loved ones and celebrates special services with a floral display at each worship service.

Supports the efforts of the Choir Director and Organist to enhance our religious experience through music.

Ushers Committee
Ensures that there are ushers to serve at each worship service.

Worship Committee
Supports the ministerial staff in matters of worship and sponsors summer services.

and church community

Care and Concern Committee
Provides and strengthens the emotional and spiritual connection among members of the First Unitarian Church community who are in need due to life-changing challenges.

Circle Events Committee
Fosters friendship and fellowship among members of our Church community.

Feasts and Festivals Committee
Enhances our Church life by planning and coordinating celebrations and special events.

Hospitality Committee
Provides a welcoming environment for Church members and visitors in Fellowship Hall after Sunday services.

Membership Committee
Fosters increased recognition and involvement in Church activities of all members, with particular attention to newcomers.

Women's Alliance
Promotes fellowship and friendship among the women of the Church through service and learning.

Committees to promote lifelong learning

Adult Education Committee
Plans and presents regular programs on traditional and non-traditional responses to life's key questions.

John Learned Bookshop Committee
Raises funds for special church projects and promotes literacy and education by offering used books for sale.

John Learned Library Committee
Supports the spiritual quest of the congregation by providing materials on Unitarian Universalism specifically, religious matters in general, and other appropriate areas such as those that support our educational programs.

Religious Education Committee
Creates, supports, and maintains a program for the religious education of the Church's children and youth.

Community Action Endowment Fund Committee
Provides grants to community organizations for projects and programs.

Denominational Affairs Committee
Maintains the Church's connection to the wider Unitarian Universalist community.

Partner Church Committee
Provides spiritual and financial support to our partner congregation in Transylvania, the birthplace of Unitarianism in Europe, and provides committee members with opportunities for cultural exchange.

Public Relations Committee
Helps maintain city- and region-wide awareness among the public of programs and activities at First Unitarian Church.

Social Responsibility Committee
Represents the congregation in finding, implementing, and maintaining volunteer and fundraising opportunities that support Unitarian Universalist values and will have broad-based support in the congregation.

Web Site Committee
Develops and maintains an Internet presence for First Unitarian Church for the benefit of its members and as outreach to those seeking a church home.
